Cars been down since Saturday

Thursday right before driving up to Wekfest, I take my car up the street to my favorite burger joint Pharos and when I went to leave I tried to turn my car on and I got "click" and power died. And instantly I got power again but my clock reset and turbo timer died, almost like I removed the negative cable.

Driving up to northern california I got some arching in the car but I couldn't find anywhere on the car where a wire was rubbing, crossing, grounding, I've secured the shit out of all of my wiring in the cabin and have it zip tied down. It's super tight in there. I was going to head over to California Speedway on Saturday and visit my parents in Fontana and as soon as I took my car out of it's parking space it just died.

Disappointed and having no desire to deal with it I just pushed the car back into it's parking spot and played Marvel vs Capcom 3 on Xbox the rest of the day. Add me if you want to get down Gamertag : o137o

Turns out 1 of 2 problems existed. 1 I was getting a little bit of corrosion on my fuse box power terminal... Second my old junction power box believe it or not for the last year wasn't set up the way I initially designed it. So I had a super small wire (white/green) potentially pulling 140 amps getting super hot because it was junctioned straight into the positive power of the car or some shit. Jeff would probably explain how I fucked up.

Here is Jeff of (Jordan Innovations) scraping the corrosion off of the terminal.

My old power junction got hot enough to melt itself and the blade fuses in it.
But not break them like it should've. =(
I had to break the white 80 amp fuse to get it loose.

Here is the old fusebox setup above, nothing really is changed on the left where the fuses go. The power junction to the right is where I fucked up those white wires should be individually fused instead of providing the power to the car. The red cable goes strait to the battery in the trunk (that has a 100 amp fuse that I am not running the actual battery cable through so that is why it didn't melt or pop. DOH) The silver cable goes to the starter which is tee'd off of my alternator.

We stopped over at Audio Specialists to pick up a new blade fuse holder preferably single fuse this time around. Plus Jeff used to shop at this place all the time so him and the owner shot the shit a bit about audio stuff. I had to remove myself from the conversation since they were nerding about good sounding music and shit. I use my droid phone for a car stereo so I don't know anything about car audio. I know when my window amp died (separate problem) and shorted out the electrical in the car it took the radio with it. Sigh.... Anyway the picture below will show you how we changed the original setup.

Now the red cable from the battery is running straight to the starter, which goes to the alternator. Another cable on the starter + power post comes into the cabin (the silver cable) through a 150amp fuse instead of the 60/80 combo I was using OEM style. Then a Positive power line goes to the fusebox powering everything plugged into it. So the white cables that were t'd off here before are now crimped and fused in the black fuse box (not pictured) with a 30amp fuse for now, will have to get a 40 amp later just in case although I think it was good with the 30.

Jeff broke out all of these crazy ass measurement tools that looked like they require lube in some situations to start measuring the voltage load on my car. LOL I thought he was going to put that on my nipples or something, check this shit out!

It's not exactly the one he had, this is probably the more expensive version of what he had, but it did the same thing. You open the loop and put it around a wire and it telepathically reads your wires future and can see the loads and amperage going through them. If your business is dealing with making engine harnesses I guess this would be pretty amazing to have. Just so happens Jeff makes harnesses for racecars!

Car started right up, lights and everything seem to work just fine. I'm happy, cars happy, and then off to Alondra Wings to pay my electrical genius buddy his due!

I got the cajun spice wings, they owned my face =(

Then I came home and checked my mail. Sweet!

Thanks for looking,
Wayne
